Methods of reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) have developed considerably over the last 15 years. Primary repair and extra-articular procedures have failed to reproduce satisfactory stability of the knee 1 and the use of prosthetic ligaments has been abandoned. 2 These techniques have been superseded by reconstruction with an intra-articular graft. The current surgical approach is by anatomical reconstruction using a biological tissue autograft. The bone-patellar tendon-bone graft (B-PT-B) has given good clinical results, 3 but morbidity at the donor site 4,5 has prompted many surgeons to favour the four-strand hamstring graft usually using the tendons of semitendinosus and gracilis doubled. Reconstruction should aim to recreate the exact mechanical properties of the injured ligament and restore normal function to the knee. Currently, this cannot be achieved. Biomechanical testing of ligament reconstructions in the laboratory has been used widely in attempts to recreate these mechanical properties. The ultimate load to failure of the B-PT-B graft has been shown to be 2977 N 6

Femoral Condyle Fracture during Revision of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Case Report and a Review of Literature
Background: A rare and devastating complication following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) revision reconstruction is femoral fracture. Case presentation: A 35-year old male soccer player with a history of ACL tear from the previous year ago, who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and functioned well until another similar injury caused ACL re-rupture. Revision of ACL reconstruction w...
متن کاملBiomechanical Comparison Between Bashti Bone Plug Technique and Biodegradable Screw for Fixation of Grafts in Ligament surgery
Background: Ligament reconstruction is a common procedure in orthopedic surgery. Although several popular techniques are currently in use, new methods are proposed for secure fixation of the tendon graft into the bone tunnel. Purposes: We sought to introduce our new technique of Bashti bone plug for fixation of soft tissue graft in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and to compar...

Dear Editor,We have greatly enjoyed reading the case report entitled “‘Femoral Condyle Fracture during Revision of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Case Report and a Review of Literature in the issue of Arch Bone Jt Surg. 2015;3(2) with great interest. We would like to commend the authors for their detailed and valuable work. Although various case reports have described postoperative ...
متن کاملAnterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction with or without Bracing
Background: Rupture of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) would cause instability and disability and if left untreated. Reconstruction is performed by different techniques including patellar bone graft, as the strongest device. Application of brace after ACL reconstructions has revealed doubtful results. Methods: One hundred ACL ruptured patients randomized into two groups were reconstructed with...

Rehabilitation of the knee plays an important role following reconstruction of the anteruor cruciate ligament. Accelerated rehabilitation programme has changed the concept of immobilization after operation. Along with the new techniques of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and with the most rigid graft fixation systems, rehabilitation programmes continue to be modified with less constra...

A 24 year old otherwise healthy male was presented with a chief complaint of giving way in the left knee. MRI reportedcomplete anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tearing. Arthroscopy showed ACL agenesis, ring-shaped lateral meniscus, and an anomalous thick band extending from the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus to the intercondylar notch of thelateral femoral condyle, which...
